Cruisn' for a Brusin'.

Spank Rock has filled my car with great sounds while I'm driving home. At the stop light right before my house I'm tapping my hand against my steering wheel, loving the music. As I approach the turn-in to my house, a couple(at least I think it was a couple) was walking into the dip of the concrete when I slowed down to a stop to drive in. Now I don't mind waiting for pedestrians to pass, but when you glare at me when I'm waiting, that's a big no-no. Although I didn't do anything, was it really necessary for the guy passing by to glare at me as if I was going to run him over? I suppose so because his alpha male mode must've kicked in that very moment. The girl of the couple(might have been his mom, I can't remember) was pushing a baby carriage along, but that's besides the point.

What had me sitting in my car pondering for a couple minutes was the fact that he had his chest pushed out and his hands balled up into fists. So there was me sitting in my car thinking, "Did I really do something offensive?" Snapping back to the present I knew I didn't do anything to provoke such an act. By the look of the guy and his attire, I'm guessing he was still in high school. In hindsight, I really wished I rolled down my window and shouted, "Hey good lookin'!" That would've thrown him off his little half-assed trip into male dominance.

28 Weeks Later > Shrek the Third

So this week I went to see 28 Weeks Later and Shrek the Third. The first movie I watched was Shrek with some friends, and today I watched 28WL with my girlfriend. Needless to say STT was a butt sore. If I could find the review I wanted to post, I'd link it, but alas there are too many reviews for me to sift through. Oh well, on with my Shrek review and then 28WL thoughts.

The movie flat out had no direction. I felt like leaving the theater and kept on wanting the movie to be over as soon as possible. Honestly I've had enough of the pop referenced bullshit humor. How old is, "Oh no you didn't!" Did they really think they'd get away with it? Oh before I go any further, I need to say something that went on in the theater. It's not a big deal but just a small side comment. Right when the movie started, I turned to my friend and said, "Do you think the animation is going to suck?" My reasoning for this? I just don't like the animation in the Shrek movies. It just doesn't pace very well. In any case, some guy behind me said, "Mmm the animation looks good!", a bit into the movie. When my ears received that comment I proceeded to roll my eyes. But anyway, back to the review.

I read one critc's take on the film and he stated that there was "high-brow" humor. Wow, really? If you think that's high-brow humor, then I feel sorry for you, friend(not!). There were jokes that were funny to me, but not a whole lot. For example, when the audience laughed, I felt obligated to laugh. Although it was the sort of half-assed chuckle that ended as fast as it came. The story was just poorly written. At the end of the day, I felt gypped. Seriously Dreamworks, what were you thinking?

Besides that though, the visuals were amazing. During the King's funeral, the lighting was pretty spot on, and not I'm not spoiling anything because all of what I'm saying can be seen in the trailer, booyah! There's not many positive things I can say about Shrek the Third, but I will say save your money for and rent it.

Onward to 28 Weeks Later! This movie was brilliant, I loved it. The soundtrack, the direction, all of it. Although there were some parts of the movie that felt disorienting, but I think that's how the director wanted to make it feel, to show the sense of hysteria in the air during that time. All in all a great movie to watch in the theaters. There was a guy sitting next to me and my girlfriend that kept of shouting out things like, "Oh shit!", "What the fuck?!" It was pretty funny, but I tend to not like people shouting things out in theaters. In this case though, I let it slide.

Blasted!

I came across an extremely/sad video of a child getting K.O.'ed. Now where the hell was the mom in all this?! Yeah you see her rushing in at the end but its ages later. Such dumb people. The video will definitely provide hours of non-stop laughter.

Besides kids being knocked out, I'm starting my spaceman sculpture pretty soon. It's not going to look exactly like the illustration I sketched just because it wouldn't really work out with the pick ax being out so far. I'm just going to have to come up with a way to make it work. In any case I should be posting pictures of the sculpture while I work on it.

This past week I've been listening to an assortment of new music. Top notch quality. Most notably Spank Rock. Tracks like Rick Rubin and Bump make me feel that the music in America's coming around. Also I've been listening to Flosstradamus. Probably one of the better Dj Duo's I've heard in such a long time. Listen hardy maties!

Clearer than crystal, well almost.

Alright I just experienced the best damn web player, ever. DivX's web player is insane. I know it's been around for a while but I never heard about it until today. The streaming technology they have is nothing short of spectacular. Usually on any site when I try to play a video there's some usual buffer time(as with any site). Then there are times when videos that shouldn't take long to load take forever +1. But with the DivX's player its not usually the case. Videos load almost instantaneously, although I wouldn't know how the videos load for 56k users.

The picture quality is ridiculously good and I'm still going crazy over it. Now the next step is for all those damn video websites like Youtube.com to switch. One of the clips I watched was from the movie Mulan. It was of the song I'll Make A Man Out of You. Disney greatness all over again. Anyway, the web player is definitely something to check out, for it holds greatness within its loins!

Sketches

I've decided to do more quick sketches due to some inspirational art by Peter Michail. His characters are so badass, I wish I could draw like him. Another blog that I spend way too much time at is Lou Romano's blog.

To refresh your memories, It's the one of the talented artists over at Pixar. Anyway, I'm going to try to upload three pages at a time on these sketch posts. Some pages might be one whole image, but I don't care it still counts! Muhahaha! Oh yeah, I didn't spend much time on these so things will be off, and blah blah etc.

Sunday, funday.

So today I've been doing homework, mainly animation for my team production class. We have two weeks to finalize all animations and I'm pretty much freaking out because that's not a lot of time. I'm not sure if my team leader wants the animation to be finished or to just have the line work down, but I guess we'll hash that out this coming tuesday when we all meet.

On a lighter note, I've been listening to the new Ozma Album titled Pasadena. Pretty good overall, but I think their sound needs more direction because at times in the songs it feels like it drifts. They got some old tracks on the album. No one needs to know, and Eponine. I'm more of a fan of their older work but maybe I just need to give the new songs a chance. Star from Ozma has changed a lot in comparison to the other band mates.

While I'm still on the topic of music, I've been listening to a lot of different genres of music. A lot of Break, DnB, Grime, "nu rave", and various other things. One of the best groups on my music player right now are The Mitchell Brothers. Why? Because they have beats and lyrics that blow rap artists today away! As well Mike Skinner from The Streets. *Sigh* I wish The Streets blew up over here so they got the recognition they deserve. At least they're well known in the UK. Too much crap music coming out in our states today. It's sad.

Anyway, I should end this post before I write pages and pages about how UK music is better than our music(not totally true, but a good chunk). Alright, until the next time I find time to post!

First!

Alright, so I started a new blog because I forgot my username for my old one. Woo hoo! I hope to have things setup soon so that you can enjoy the coolness that is me(not!). So far I have a lot of images that I need to scan and post but knowing myself that won't be happening anytime soon. In the mean time head over to www.Drawn.ca for all your artsy pleasures.
